I’m absolutely loving the way my front door turned out. I recently painted it with ALKYD Satin Enamel Behr Interior/Exterior paint color “Broadway”. I started off by lightly sanding my door with 100 grit sandpaper and then wiped down to get rid of the dust with a wet lint free cloth. After it dried I used a foam roller to paint the main door and worked the roller around in the areas with crevices. For the trim on the outside of the door that is connected to the house, I used a brush to get into the cracks and then used a foam roller for the second and third coats. I would not have needed a third coat but I wanted to make sure that the door was coated well since it was going to be outside.
I ran into a little bump in the road when the paint bubbled in the right lower corner. There were about 5 bubbles in one small area. I heard from some others that it might have been because the builders used oil based paint and I was using latex over it? I’m not sure if that was why, but I guess if you can make sure of the type of paint used on your door before you paint, then you will not have to deal with it bubbling. Usually when using oil based paint, oil based paint is what should painted over it. I wish I would have thought of that before painting. I just ripped the bubbled paint off and sanded that part down as much as I could without ruining the other paint around it and then repainted it. It seemed to cover it well and I haven’t had any issues since. Here are the before and after photos. I’m just loving this black color. It is so crisp and perfect.
BEFORE: I know the lighting is horrible in this before shot but I think this shows exactly how bad our door needed painted. This previous color was a blueish color to give you an idea of the change in color.
AFTER: The process went fairly quickly, minus my little snafu. I think it took me about 2 hours to complete the whole process. I wish I would have done it a long time ago. Now to find the perfect wreath for our “new” front door.
I love the added touch that this address planter from Modern Aspect gives to this space! I’m pretty sure that Chester loves it too, or that he just wants a carrot.
Thank you for stopping by. I hope this helped answer a lot of questions that I was getting about the color and the process of painting my front door. Have a wonderful day my friends.

Your door looks awesome as does Chester sitting in front. Chester is so photogenic – I imagine he is a delightful companion. Wished I could see your home is person! Is your home a two story home? Are you going to show your patio decorated for Christmas? I know its going to look amazing – love your style of decorating.
