I wanted to chat a little about my love for vintage rugs. I love vintage rugs as much as I love blueberries, and that’s more than a lot. I can’t believe I stole this from the thrift store for $50. Well, you know what I mean. I’m really not a thief.
If you saw my stories on IG, I talked about how I almost (well I felt like I almost) got murdered for buying this rug. I saw it online on craiglist, listed at a local thrift store. I called because I knew it was exactly what I was looking for and the lady said that I was more than welcome to come stand in line but she couldn’t hold it for me. I asked her when the store opened and how many people were in line. She said about 15 and it opened in 30 minutes. Ahhhhh, I live 3o minutes away!! She also told me that when I got to the store to make a beeline to the back, right side of the store and that’s where the rug was. So I quietly and ever so gracefully got into my car and drove the speed limit until I got there and sure enough there were about 20-25 people in line by that time. I played by the rules and waited in line and when the doors opened, I zipped to the back, right side of the store and sure enough there it was and a couple was already looking at it, hemming and hawwing, acting like they didn’t want it. So, I went straight up to a worker and said that I would like the rug. Lucky me, it was the lady I had spoken to on the phone and she yelled, rug sold!!! And then you probably know what happened next, all H-E- double hockey sticks broke loose in the store. A man started yelling at her saying he couldn’t find the rug in the store fast enough and that he was waiting in line for an hour. I walked up quietly with my rug, paid and got out of there as fast as I could. That man and another lady chased me out of the store yelling at me, saying how rude it was that I bought the rug. I can’t say that I didn’t feel like my life was ending. I thought they were going to follow me home. I even took a different route just in case they tried. Ok, next time I’ll take candy to pass out to the people that missed out. Maybe, hot tamales? Those used to be my favorite when I used to eat candy.
Anyways, so I just wanted to link some places for you that I have gotten other vintage rugs from in my home and this other shop that has great reviews and look amazing. I am also sourcing this room below because I get so many questions about the chairs, the dresser, where I got the paint, how I shiplapped my walls, and so forth. So it’s all linked up down there at the end of my post, including all of my tutorials of projects that I completed in this room. Including that clock there AND how I painted my thrifted mantle.
And what do you guys think? Vintage Art? Or no Vintage Art? (for this space) I would love for you to let me know your opinion in the comments below.
Thank you for stopping by and I hope this helps you find an amazing vintage rug or something else really great for your space!

Rug is gorgeous ! Really adds a nice warm element to the room. As for the people in line – never mess with a woman on a vintage rug mission! So what’s the protocol for bringing it home. Do you have it cleaned first? Send it out or have someone do it in Home. I’ve never even considered a second hand rug because I’m afraid of a possibly strange odor and how much it would cost to clean.

Thank you Erin! I rent a rug cleaner from our local hardware store.❤️

If you mean the vintage painting that you have in there now, personally, I love it! And the rug is stunning in your living room!

Thank you so much Kathy!! I didn’t know whether to keep the painting there or not.

What a fantastic story to start my day. It made me laugh because this sounds just like my sister (and my mom)! My sister always finds a great thrift store deal (at the good will outlet) and is repeatedly telling stories of the people that “threaten her life.” Love the rug and what a “steal!” Lol. It really makes the room pop. Gorgeous!

LOVE the rug – and it was worth the waiting and uncomfortable words. However, I’m a ‘no’ to the vintage picture – the space is warm and inviting, and after looking many times at your great picture, my eye immediately went to the picture, and that’s not what the room is about – sorry.

Love the vintage pic. Adds just what that area of the room needs. It is pulled in by Brown tones in other areas. To me, it makes just the right “pop”!
