Happy Friday Friends! I get a lot of questions asking where I purchased my dining table. So, I just wanted to share with you the before and after of my thrifted table. Most of my home is thrifted decor and furniture. With three kids and a tight budget, there is not much wiggle room to spend a lot of money on furniture and decor. I have to say that the table I had previously from Target worked just fine but I’ve always dreamed of having a farmhouse looking table with big fat beefy legs. I could barely believe my eyes when I walked into Goodwill one day and found this beauty on castors for only $60! My thoughts were that I would refinish it and sell it which gave me an excuse to buy it. Well, during the process of refinishing it I became attached to it so we sold our other table and kept this sweet baby! Let me tell ya…after hours of sanding and 2 sore hands later, I’m in farmhouse table heaven.
Finally the top was sanded! But, oh there are 2 leaves yet to sand! Not complaining here as it makes the table so much more grand having 2 leaves!
I mean really, is this the same table? The ugly orange is gone! Yay! The top is stained with Dark Walnut Minwax Stain and the bottom is painted in Behr Paint Swan Wing. I then distressed it and antiqued it with Antiquing Gel. I sealed the top with 6 coats of Minwax Oil Based Satin Polyurethane (can never get enough coats on a highly used surface) and the bottom is sealed with wax. And yes, I keep my kids picture in their santa hats up all year round, lol.
It’s the perfect home for my farmhouse bowl and pitcher and of course I would never leave out my sweet lavender! I can’t get enough of this lavender!
Thanks for stopping by! I hope that we can meet up on Instagram and Facebook as well! Have a great weekend!

Did you have to sand the legs of the table to paint it white or does the paint dry well on top of the coated bottom half?
My Vintage Porch says
I lightly sanded it but I painted it with chalk paint so no sanding is required with chalk paint…sometimes I still lightly sand though

Hi Natalie! Your whole DIY blog is SO helpful; thank you so much for sharing your knowledge:) I am using your entire process of refinishing for my own 30 yr old dining room table, that we simply can’t part with. I have a couple of questions. You painted the bottom with Behr Swan Wing for this project, when you normally use Benjamin Moore Dove White. Do you still recommend using that color? Or is that even a big deal since you use the antiquing gel? Also, I will definitely use many coats of oil based polyurethane sealer for the top, but again, for durability purposes, would you still use the wax sealer on the bottom or switch to polyurethane? I LOVE your table (and your entire home) and hope mine turns out half as beautiful! Thank you 🙂 PS, I think I even have those exact same chairs-they’re so heavy!

Thank you so much Jennifer! That is so sweet of you! The white would not really matter since you are using antiquing gel, swan wing is a little more of a brighter white. If you would like the bottom half to be even more wipeable, I would recommend using water based poly. Don’t use the urethane on light colors or it will yellow since it’s oil based. If you are staining your table top a light color I would use the water based poly as well but the oil based works amazing for the darker color stains. Hope all that helps a little. Let me know if you have any other questions, would love to see yours when you are finished!

So the white paint is chalk paint but what brand of wax did you use for the bottom? I’m in the process now and not sure what to seal it with?
