When I found this table at a thrift store, I couldn’t believe my eyes when I saw the $15 price tag!

I didn’t love the color but I could see the potential and old character under all of the old stain.
I thought about just selling it because of all of my projects stacking up but I just couldn’t do it. I love old tables and I knew this one was going shine with character once it was finished!
I sanded all of the stain off and then bleached it, just like I bleached this cabinet.
I used 4 coats of the undiluted outdoor Clorox bleach. I couldn’t believe how much it lightened!
After I was finished bleaching, I wiped it down with a wet towel.
I added some old wooden castors to the legs. Lucky for me, there were already holes drilled in each leg. I’m sure it probably had castors long ago.
I was nervous about sealing it because sometimes sealers can change the color of the wood. I used Fiddes and Sons (color light) wax and it worked great!
I’m not sure how the durability will be since I haven’t used that as a top sealer before, but it didn’t change the coloring at all! I’m so happy with how it turned out! I love the new bleached look!! It allows the character to stand out so much more!

Stumble across your blog and have been enjoying your bleaching projects. I’ve wanted to do my kitchen table and chairs for some time now and you have inspired me to give it a go! Thank you! I’d love to know the source on your area rug seen under the table? Thanks again!

How beautiful the table turned out! I LOVE your family room/living room? Where did you find the rug you are showing under the table?

Love that you show the process. Most people would just paint things. The table looks great.

How do you apply the bleach to the legs, do you spray it on? Do you have a step by step tutorial for this process?

And you have not disappointed us.
Such a beautiful table after what you did with the bleach. Very impressive!
Is it possible do you think to use household bleach on wood?.

Beautiful table. I’ve been using Polyvine Heavy duty wood varnish in clear dead flat. NO color change. Polyvine products line is AMAZING.

Finally! Someone whose design esthetic matches mine. Not too country but still somewhat rustic. Not too fussy but still a bit of formality. Love the perfect mix you’ve attained. Can’t wait to rethink my rooms. I’m inspired! Also nice instructions on DIY projects. Thanks so much.
