Adding Vintage Touches To Home Decor

I’m so excited to be a part of this “Fall-ing Into Vintage” home tour hosted by my friend, Holli at Bees n Burlap.  If you follow the links at the end of my tour, it will lead you to all of the other amazing home tours. There are so many great bloggers with so much talent here to offer some great Fall decorating inspiration.

Vintage items are always one of my favorite things to use in my home decor. I love the unique feel it adds to a space. These are things that I can’t just stop by the “normal store” and pick up. There is so much fun in the hunt of vintage items as well. I have always loved these old vintage pickling crocks. Have I ever pickled anything? Nope, but I sure do love the look of them in my home decor. Many times I can find these for a more budget friendly price if they are cracked. A little crack has never bothered me and as long as I’m not using them for pickling, I welcome the cracks.

I found this old dresser, hardware and all, for $20. I knew I wanted to spruce it up with some paint and Old Barn Milk Paint in Picket Fence was the perfect touch.

Old trunks have been another one of my vintage loves. I don’t know that anyone can ever have too many. And when the color doesn’t fit with my space, I just paint them. I used my chalk paint recipe to paint this white trunk beside my sofa and Miss Mustard Seed Milk Paint color trophy to paint the one on the bottom. I love the old look of the brown trunk, so it’s staying as is.

I wanted one of my walls in this space to appear looking like concrete. I love the way that it turned out and am so glad that I chose to DIY the other walls in this faux brick too. It adds so much texture to this space. Having some old wooden boxes around is always great for storage too.

I found these candle holders at a thrift store, painted them with my diy chalk paint, and used some old vintage jewels from an old chandelier to spruce them up. And when I found these old rusty locks at a thrift store and asked to buy them, I think the store owner thought I was crazy. Who doesn’t need some rusty vintage locks in a bowl sitting around?

Switching out rugs and pillows in a space always makes my home decor heart happy. If anyone lives with someone that loves to decorate, I’m sure you probably know what I’m talking about.

This vintage rug has lived in many places in our home. I just can’t get enough of it.

And since this is my kids “grown up area”, they still needed a chalk board. I mean, I’m 40 and I still love to color on chalkboards. My daughter sure did love joining in on the apple coloring. And it’s amazing how great using a stencil for letting on a chalkboard can work.

I turned this wasted space behind the staircase into a reading nook for my kids. It gives them somewhere to hide out for a bit. My Freshman in high school loves to sit in here and do her homework. This vintage lamp shade, hanging from the ceiling, works perfect for extra lighting. And I found this wooden rocking horse at a garage sale for $5! Yes, I’m still in amazement over here. My kids told me that they want their kids to ride it some day too…and that just made my day.

Thank you for joining in on my “Vintagey” Fall tour of my kids area. I love this area so much that I come up here when it’s clean to just to sit and stare AND to get away from the rest of the messes in my house. It’s definitely not JUST for my kids. Have a wonderful day and click the links below to see the rest of my friends gorgeous homes.

Love, love, love your blog! You got me inspired and I ordered some of the mix-in to make your chalk paint recipe. Can’t wait to give it a try soon. Just curious how tall your room ceilings are? With all the white, great light and cool stuff you have going on, it’s hard to tell if they are 8,9,or 10 feet high. ?

Can’t wait to see all of your projects too! Thank you so much Mary! They are 9′ ceilings.
